BASIC FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE CHRISTIAN
By Pastor Dennis Dills
INTRODUCTION
This is a Bible study that is intended to help you make the most of your new life in Christ. If you have never been involved much in church, there will be a good deal of this material that will be brand new to you. If you have been involved in religion, on the other hand, there will be many things you will have to prayerfully study. The Word of God will help you to understand these things.
There are several things that you can do that will help get the most out of this Bible study. The first thing you need is a King James Bible, called the Authorized King James Version. This is all we use because it is the only Bible for English speaking people which can be trusted to be without error or fault. It is the preserved Word of God for English speaking people.
1. You will need to set aside a certain time each day that you can devote to the study of this course. It must be a time of no interruptions in order to obtain the effective results.
2. You should study at your own pace. You can go as fast as you want to as long as you understand what you are studying. If you become confused, slow down and do not hesitate to ask questions.
3. You should look up every scripture verse listed even though you already think you know what it says. It will only take a few seconds to do so and it will be worth your time.
4. As soon as you have learned something, put those principles into practice in your life right away. The more you do this, the more you will experience God’s blessings upon you.
5. Open each study session in prayer. Just ask the Lord to give you wisdom as you study.
Our prayer is that you will really be blessed by your study of God’s Word. We want to see your spiritual life begin to grow and bring forth eternal fruit. We would like to assist you in any way we can, so please feel free to ask any questions or advice
ASSURANCE OF
SALVATION
Praise God! You have just become a Christian. It would be nice if we could assure you that life is now going to be all roses but we can’t. You see, now the devil is going to do his best to discourage and defeat you, but that’s all right because now you have the Lord on your side to help you through the battles. The first thing the devil will do is try to make you doubt your salvation, so let’s go back and review it and settle it firmly in your mind and heart.
1. First of all, you realized that, "As it is written, There is _________ righteous, no, not one:" (Romans 3:10)
2. This means that, "For all have _____________ , and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)
3. If “all” have sinned, then you know that you also have ______________.
4. According to Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is _____________”….
5. The ‘death’ being talked about here is not only the physical death, but spiritual death. We are sure this is true because Revelation 20:14 says, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the ________________ death”.
6. Even though there are a lot of people who are trying to do enough good things to get into heaven, we know this is impossible because Titus 3:5 says, “Not by works of _______________________ which _________ have done, but according to _______ _________________he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the ______________ _____________”.
JUSTIFIED
To be justified means you have been proven to be “Not Guilty”. It is just the opposite of being condemned.
7. Even doing all the commandments is not enough because Romans 3:20, "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be __________________ in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." (Romans 3:20)
8. According to Romans 5:8 what did God commend toward us? ________________________ And what did Jesus Christ do for us? ______________________________.
9. We can’t be justified by our good works so the only way we can be justified is by his ____________. (Romans 5:9)
10. We can’t earn our way into heaven, "For the wages of sin is __________; but the __________ of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
11. There’s only one way to get a gift, you have to receive it; and there’s only one way to get the gift of salvation. “But as many as _________________ him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”. (John 1:12)
9. That’s easy. Luke 13:3 says, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye ______________, ye shall all likewise _______________."
10. Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt _______________ with thy _____________ the Lord Jesus, and shalt ______________ in thine ______________ that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be _____________”.
11. Can God lie? (Titus 1:2) __________
12. Did He promise to save you if you would do these things? ____________
13. Do you believe Jesus died on the cross, and that God raised him from the dead so your sins could be forgiven? _______________
14. Do you realize you are a sinner? ___________
15. Are you ready to repent of your sin and ask Jesus to forgive you and come into your heart to live? ____________
16. If the answer to 15-18 are yes, then just bow your head and call upon the Lord Jesus right now.
17. Repeating prayers from your head will not save you but if you are serious and feel convicted of your sin, then pray the following prayer or a similar one from your heart
18. Dear Lord Jesus, I realize that I am a sinner and I am sorry for my sin. I do believe that you died and rose again to forgive me. Please forgive me and come into my heart to stay and be my personal Saviour. AMEN.
19. "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that ____________ to me I will in no wise _____________ ____________ ." (John 6:37)
20. You may be wondering why we have made you look up so many Bible verses about salvation. The Bible says, "These things have I written unto you that ____________ on the name of the Son of God; that ye may _____________ that ye have eternal life, and that ye may _______________on the name of the Son of God." (I John 5:13)
YOU CAN KNOW FOR SURE
THAT HEAVEN IS YOUR
ETERNAL HOME.
Waiting until death to find out if you are going to Heaven or Hell is a gamble. Thank God, we can know before death that Heaven is our eternal Home.
ETERNAL SECURITY
To know for sure that you’re saved is the most important thing in your life. Knowing that if you were to die you would go to heaven and be with the Lord for eternity gives peace beyond compare. Living in constant doubt leads to discouragement and defeat. Our greatest courage as a Christian comes from knowing that we are secure and our security doesn’t rest upon our own good works.
Perhaps you are wondering, “What if I sin, will I lose this salvation? Once you’re saved, are you always saved?” Well, let’s go to the Bible (God’s final authority) and find out what it says about this important subject.
1. The first question that we need to answer is who saved us? “Looking unto _____________ the author and finisher of our faith”. (Hebrews 12:2)
2. So Jesus Christ is our Saviour, but what is it that he has saved us from? “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their ___________” (Matthew 1:21)
3. The very moment you believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ you are saved. We know this is a fact because in Luke 7:50 Jesus told the woman, "And he said to the woman, Thy __________ hath _______________ thee; go in peace."
4. In other words as soon as she had faith she was saved!
5. Jesus saved us……(Check one of the following):
______a. After He has waited to see if we will sin no more.
______b. Whenever He gets around to it.
_______c. The very moment we repent and trust Him as Saviour.
6. Well, salvation takes effect as soon as we believe, but how long does it last? 100 years, 1000 years, 1 billion years? The Bible says in John 3:15, “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have __________________ life”.
7. Jesus repeated this promise in John 10:28 when He said, “And I give unto them ____________ life; and they shall ____________ perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”.
1. Some people might tell you that if you sin you will lose your salvation but don’t listen to them. The Bible says that Christians are those, “Who are ___________ by the __________ of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time”. (I Peter 1:5)
2. In fact, in Romans 8:38,39 the Bible says that nothing can separate us from the love of God. List the 10 things that are specifically mentioned that can’t separate us from His love.
3. When we believe in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit does something very special to us to make sure that once we get saved we will never lose it. Ephesians 1:13 shares this event with us. “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were _______________ with that holy Spirit of promise”.
You seal something when you want to preserve it and Praise God, He has preserved us!
ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED!
Eternal means forever and forever and forever and forever. It just keeps on going, and going and going, no end.
